Bluegrass Farms Internship Program
Position: Intern
Duration: 10 weeks (June 3 – August 12) 40 hours/week
Compensation: $20/hr.
Company Overview
Blue Grass Farms of Indiana is a wholesale-only nursery located in Anderson, Indiana, 25 miles northeast of Indianapolis. The nursery grows a wide variety of nursery stock on over 800 acres in field production, 80 acres in container production and in a 100,000 sq. ft. greenhouse facility. Very few plants are outsourced. At the seasonal peak, 90 employees are hard at work doing all the things that need doing to accomplish our mission:
- To grow and supply quality plant material to the horticultural trade at a fair price.
- To maintain an on-hand inventory that offers the best year-round availability in the area.

- To provide an outstanding delivery service dedicated to the highest possible level of convenience for our customers.

Internship Overview:
Join the Andrews University Career Center Internship Program in partnership with Bluegrass Farms of Indiana and gain valuable hands-on experience in the wholesale nursery industry. This program offers students the opportunity to intern in various departments, providing practical skills and exposure to the day-to-day operations of a successful business. This is an in-person internship.
Positions are available in the following areas:
- Sales
- Accounting
- Shipping
- Production
- IT
- Greenhouse
- Repair
- Delivery
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with supervisors assigned from the respective department to gain hands-on experience and guidance.
- Actively participate in departmental activities to gain practical experience relevant to your field of study.
- Attend regular meetings and training sessions to enhance your learning experience.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn.
Qualifications:
- Must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or graduate student at Andrews University.
- Enrolled in a degree program at the time of the internship and be registered for the upcoming semester.
- Demonstrated strong academic record (minimum GPA of 2.0) and genuine interest in the wholesale nursery industry.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Expectations:
- Mentorship and Guidance: Each intern will be provided with a dedicated supervisor who will oversee their day-to-day tasks and facilitate learning opportunities within the chosen department.
- Professional Development: Encouragement to participate in relevant training sessions, workshops, and networking events.
- Feedback and Evaluation: Regular feedback on performance with formal evaluations conducted at the midpoint and end of the internship period.
- Integration into Company Culture: Welcomed as valuable members of the Bluegrass Farms team with opportunities to participate in company events, meetings, and initiatives.
Application Process:
- Submit a resume and cover letter via Handshake by the deadline of May 6.
- Resumes and cover letters will be reviewed by the Career Center.
- All applicants who have not previously had their resumes and cover letters reviewed and have not participated in an interview preparation session with the Career Center must do so before their applications are forwarded to the company. Applicants will be contacted to schedule appointments to participate in these services.
- Selected candidates for referrals will be notified by May 20.
- Interviews will be conducted between May 20-24.
